Doublespeak: An Original Play with Music

By Thirteen o'Clock Theatre (other events)

7 Dates Through Aug 11, 2013

ABOUT ABOUT

Thirteen O’Clock Theatre is pleased to present its second mainstage production of the 2013 season, DOUBLESPEAK.

Continuing their mission to cultivate local artists, the company will be premiering an innovative, full-length original show. DOUBLESPEAK will navigate RGV audiences through difficult, hilarious, frustrating and triumphant conversations taking place in the RGV right now.

DOUBLESPEAK asks each of us:
“Why are you here?”
"What have your experiences been?"
"What do you wish your experiences here could be?"

You can learn more about the project and get in on the conversation by following Thirteen O’Clock on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram! More information at: www.thirteenoclocktheatre.com

DOUBLESPEAK builds on work began last summer, when the company introduced a small group of participants to devised theatre through a workshop called Devise and Conquer.

“Most performers have experienced scripted theatre where actors are expected to dissect their characters motivations,” said Director and Thirteen O’Clock Executive Director, Brisa Munoz. “In devised work, we use improvisation, games and dialogue to better understand what our own motivations are, and create fictional characters out of them.”

DOUBLESPEAK is an original piece created through the collaborative efforts of its ensemble. Through original music, dance, and dialogue the ensemble will present a piece reflecting on, challenging and engaging the RGV community.

“We were interested in telling stories that are true to this place, right here and right now,” said Assistant Director, Sara Sawicki. “The way we wanted to accomplish this wasn't by seeking out a script, but by making it ourselves.”

The cast and crew are excited to share this piece and to continue the conversation. Audiences will have the opportunity to have their voices heard through facilitated post-show discussions as well as a community art project.

Performances will take place at the UTPA Library Media Theater located at:

1201 W. University Dr. Edinburg, TX 78539

Performances are: August 1st-3rd, 9th & 10th at 7:30PM and August 4th & 11th at 2PM.

Tickets are $10 at the door.
Pre-sale tickets are available for $7

DOUBLESPEAK is supported by a grant from the McAllen Arts Council, Texas Commission on the Arts and the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.
